Why me? Why Now?

This website has been more or less visible since 2012, when I was living in Edinburgh, trying out community in a tenement flat. My friend, Julia, always an inspiration and a 'doer', ushered us both into the digitally visible. I have the tech confidence to try things, she has the persistence to make us actually do it. The significance of the Heron and what it waits for in the title is explained in the blog entry for 30th April. It is always work in progress and I try to remember Mary Oliver's opening line from Wild Geese - YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE GOOD. (there is a story about that - an old one that I made almost as a rebuke to the university for not following up on the project 'learning for a complex world').
The motivation for this site, now, seems to be archival - to show and tell some things I have done and made, but without forcing it on people - I'm not looking for followers or wanting to exert influence.If someone asks me 'What is a digital story?' I can can send a link to some I made earlier. My journals and writing are scattered in various notebooks and folders around the house: this space gives me ready access to things I wrote as far back as 1993, when I was about to graduate as a mature student from Lancaster's School of independent Studies (an amazing learning space that has now closed). [I am searching for a link in the Archives of the University, not believing that such a resource can have disappeared without trace.]
In the summer of 2020, I revisited the 'sleeping' site (and created another one for the group) to offer a close but dispersed group of locked-down friends a glimpse of what might be possible online, even when we could not get together to share, eat and dance in Bolton Village Hall.
In 2021, I began a course with Carol Day called 'Visionary Artist' and created a new area to share my play with fellow visionaries. Here's the story I made about one of my many experiences. In mid-November, 2022, I started a training with Nora Bateson to become a Warm Data / People Need People host. I am remembering that I do not have to be good, so I do not need to immediately swing into action and Do The Work. Perhaps I will write some summaries - I am only half way through the course. There will be stories. .
Now in 2026 I am beginning a new chapter (resilience) and writing about my experiences of trying to implement / practice Warm Data.
